Music Rehearsal Skills Diary

19/09/16 - I rehearsed with Miss Rotchell's orchestra and the thing that went was that I was already familiarized with "Toreador" so I already knew how to play along.

But the thing I could improve on is how often I practice it at home even though I already know how to play it.

3/10/16 - yet again I rehearse with the orchestra and felt the same way as last time. like I really do know what I'm doing so it's not really any trouble for me.

17/10/16 - me and Lewis performed to the class including the teacher, over all lewis made a good come back from his mistake from the beginning the music itself was a challenging task. the good comments were reasonable and understandable for me and him to acknowledge and the improvement comments were also understandable for me because the teacher said that I could make the chord either more quiet or more louder that the melody that lewis plays for the whole music piece.

2/11/16 - we both decided that I as a beginner cellist would need to practise alone as well as lewis would also need to practise alone as he was a drum player, from there and the rest of the lesson me and him managed to rehearse separate from each other really well from our preferred instruments, personally I believe that this would really help us both with the 5 songs we will have to do for the end of year music PA exam performance.

7/11/16 - Another lesson of being on my own for the solo cello performance. I managed to choose the songs I want to do which some are basic and some are complex but manageable for me to play as I have been through them with my cello teacher. Along with the ideas, I chose to perform "heat haze" for the second song for the end of year performance exam.

14/11/16 - Today is the day where everyone has to perform their pieces, but I forgot to bring my instrument so my teacher said that I have to update my blog instead.

5/12/16 - My "A" string on my cello broke so I couldn't go over my third song without it so all I did was play the piece but without the A string.

14/12/16 - During the Monday rehearsal with the orchestra a helper teacher very kindly put an A string where it was missing with the tuning it needed. so for this lesson (the 14th) I was able to practise the songs I'll be doing for the end of year exam, but the issue this time was that I thought a room was going to be free for the whole lesson, that was, when Sir and Ben came in, I politely left the room into A47, there I found that a loud band was using that room, at this point I was carrying my bag, coat, my music stand and my cello. But what I needed was a quiet space since I'm doing this preformance majority solo. Finally there in the music studio I managed to load off all my stuff on the floor in a sensible manner. But this problem was this time was that the stand I found in fist room was broken so I asked Sir if I take it to the stage in A block and take another one out, he agreed. After that action I finally managed to unpack my cello, open my cello book form getting it out from my bag and finally start practising. with my big passion I played "Gypsy dance" with energy (as it was what it said), not only that I played peacefully gently on "Banyan tree" (as that also was what it said). So after that adventure I'd say that with the time taken for this to happen that I practiced pretty well, because with every little detail I got wrong, I never gave up the chance to go other it again but more slowly, then again at it's normal speed.
What the adventure eh?

18/1/17 - me and Lewis were practising in the same room as this arranged, I played my cello (as always) and lewis played this tune which I assumed what he wasn't meant to do, later on he went to find a drum kit as that's he's prefered instrument and I continued to play what I arranged, but I find them too easy so I thought from Monday's lesson when me and Lewis looked up Undertale music sheets for the cello, On Wednesday (18/1/16) I told my teacher that I might want to play this type of music but she said that I have to check it with her first as it may be too hard which I understand.

23/1/17 - I've decided that I want to perform 3 solo pieces from the "cello runners" book, one solo piece called "the music of the night" and the 5th piece being a game piece called "memory" which me and Lewis are going to play together on the piano. During Orchestra that evening we all moved onto a new piece called "fire bird final" it was easy for me as Miss Rotchell got the simpler version for me.

1/2/17 - For the Monday coming up everyone has to perform their 2nd piece, and I've chosen this piece called "The music of the night". so with the time I had in lesson I practised with my cello, I felt confident with the part I've cut out and played what I
left. When Mr. Flowers came in and listened to what I played, he advised that I should put more emphasis into the notes making it have a better sound, I had a go and he said that I can be as creative as I want. From there I only had a bit of time to practise
the advise, but for the Weekend I'm going to try what sir said.

6/2/17 - for today I was actually really nervous to perform my piece on the cello in front of everyone, but Lewis was the only one to volunteer first and with his drumming HE WAS REALLY LOUD, but everyone said that he did well. then I was the one to volunteer, with what I had I finally struggled out the metaphorical
chains of fear and washed my way through the piece called "the music of the night". (the key good and improvement points will be on the blog)

22/2/17 - I couldn't decide weather to play "Banyan tree" or Gypsy dance" because in "Banyan tree" it's really calm and peaceful and there "Gypsy dance" being energetic and rhythmic. since I like both of these pieces I will next time play both piece to see which one I play best with to perform for my 3rd.

27/2/17 - today I went through the pieces, it was RUFF for me to choose the one I was going to go with, but in the end I chose the piece "Banyan Tree". The reason why I chose this piece is because it is nice and calm like my previous performance and I'm going to do two calm and two energetic pieces, so for the first piece is the team-up performance with Lewis on the piano.

8/3/17 - How I prepared for today's rehearsal:

To prepare for today's rehearsal session I set up two chairs for myself one for me to sit on and one as a stand. the helper teacher had to get my piece called "pirates of the caribbean" because I left in the SSC on monday. when I was all set up with my chairs and cello I went through the whole piece with some of the tricky parts I picked up.

What I set out to achieve today

Today I wanted to play the piece and understand it also expecting to have some hard parts with mistakes.

13/3/17 - I was ill so I couldn't come in for the whole day nor for this music lesson so that meant that I couldn't go through the piece I was finding a little tricky with on my cello, but the helper teacher that was with us the previous week said that I was decently well appart from that tricky part he agreed on with me.

8/5/17 - Today I wanted to get another recording done. So, to prepare myself I set up two chairs, one for me to sit on and one to spare as a music stand. Once I had unpacked my cello, I started to rehearse the piece called "Banyan tree".
Lewis was with me the whole time, who helped tune my "C" string, but I couldn't seem to, So Mr. flowers did it for me. When Mr. Flowers came again he wanted to record what the piece sounded like, but the usage he was using wasn't working, so the recording couldn't be done.

17/5/17 - For this lesson I wanted to get my recording done for "Banyan Tree" since I couldn't get it done last lesson because of some technical difficulties. So to prepare myself, I got out two chairs again (one for me to sit on and one for the music) and started to go through it to refresh myself where Lewis and Annabel was with me. When I was ready Mr. Flowers managed to record me playing "Banyan Tree" which went well and I had to introduce myself and then Mr. Flowers recorded me Playing "Pirates of the Caribbean" which also went well, but I messed up at the end part but, Mr. Flowers said the it was well covered as I powered through, so two recording were done today.

22/5/17- Today Mr. Flowers wanted us to perform to the class so that we can get some feedback to how to improve and what we all did well. When it was my turn after Lewis's, I played Banyan tree
which everyone enjoyed. I was given advice that I should play both sections of my piece to make it longer and I was flattered to hear that me playing the cello is a thing that wants be heard over and over again.

7/6/17- for this lesson I wanted to justify how to extend my pieces so I'd make it for the 15 performance, so to do this I had help from my teacher for suggestions, once I had a clue of how to do this I simply edited the music sheet from "Music of the night". I was going to play it through until we ran out if time. Before all of this I was yet again going through "Pirates of the caribbean" which I enjoyed because it was energetic.

20/6/17 - for my next recording I want to get the piece "priest of the caribbean" so I got out my cello in one of the practise room in A51 and got out my cello book which had the piece sliced inside. Once I had a chair for myself and one for the piece and book. So now I was very happily and confidently went through the piece which I kinda danced along with keeping the rhythm. When Mr. Flowers came he asked how I was getting on, I told him that I was getting the piece I was doing ready for the next performance, but today I had a bit of a pounding head so sir might have found me in a slouching matter again my cello looking distressed from the pain, so for about a certain time I'm honest to say that I couldn't  help but sleep off the pain to at least try to heal it a bit that way, so I instantly got out of the clouds and told that him that it may be a better way if I just repeat "Banyan Tree" once, but sir that it may last longer if I repeat it twice (both lines included) and so I agreed with my usual energetic and happy self with sir and he said to try it out if it'll work and so I did and turned out that sir was right and I'm pleased that I managed to get two pieces rehearsed. :3

5/9/17 - Over the summer break, I managed to rehearse all of my songs (including the last one I needed), and make recordings for them on my phone, which I listened to and decided which one(s) I need to focus on and try to improve. I have to be honest and say that, one out of them all (5), l feel like I need to make longer and sound better.

18/09/17 - I'm trying to think of a way to extend the music piece: Spy movie, as it is fairly short, I believe that if it  could possibly be 2 minutes long, this could do fine.

30/10/17 - Today I looked over my phone to see what recordings I have already made. It seemed that I needed to somehow extend "Spy Movie", which ended up to be successful, but it needs to be rehearsed and recorded. "Gypsy Dance" is another one in which I need to rehearse and record.

6/11/17 - I tried to make a longer progress with these songs I will be performing by recording the newest next song: "Spy movie". It needs to be longer, which I did record again. But I didn't manage to record "Gypsy dance", this is what I'll intend to do next lesson.

13/11/17 - I managed to get recordings for "Gypsy Dance" on its own and with my editing. the recording on it's own was only 1 minute, I wasn't happy with this so I managed to expand it with a threw repeats here and there

(from then on, the other entries are within "230 Final assessment exam).
